Newsflash November

Dear friends, dear supporters and dear fans!

We are back with a new update from the concept phase of EDGE16.

The first months of the new season are now behind us and we started November with 42 highly motivated newbies. The concept phase of the EDGE16 is in full swing and we are pleased to give you exciting insights into the latest developments and activities of the racing team and to inform you about the most important events.

This month saw our very first Driverless Test Day, which provided some valuable insights. The test day was carried out to validate the steering servo for the current season and to provide a proof of concept for the driverless systems. Initially, the odometry (based on wheel movement measurements) and localization were tested and improved to increase their accuracy and test the concepts. Subsequently, the focus was placed on the steering servo. Various movement profiles were run in order to create the widest possible evaluation window. The data obtained will be used both for the further development of the driverless system and for the selection of steering components for next season. Therefore, this test day was a complete success.

In addition to the test day, there was a training session on our new CAD system. Since we switched to 3D-Experience last summer, it was time to introduce everyone to the new system so that we too could master the program as well as possible. Even though the system is very similar to the old one, some experienced members also took part in order to refresh their CAD knowledge before the final design phase of the EDGE16. Above all, however, the training was dedicated to our numerous newbies, who were given the chance to strengthen their skills.

In addition, part of our team traveled to Győr in Hungary from November 15 to 17 to attend the Formula Student Symposium, which is a great enrichment for us every year and prepares us for the upcoming racing season. The presentations by industry experts such as Claude Rouelle (OptimumG) and former Formula Student participants such as Jonas Pangerl and Timothy Anticevich provided us with valuable insights into topics such as vehicle dynamics and team management. In addition to the presentations, the symposium was a perfect opportunity to make contacts with other teams - our team members will remember the visit to the Arrabona Racing Team workshop in particular.

We also visited the FSA Academy(Formula Student Austria) on 23.11. to go through the event schedule there and find out which rule changes, for example with regard to increasing efficiency or a business plan, need to be paid particular attention to. Our team was also given some important tips regarding technical approvals and specifications.

As you may already know, we are often to be found at a wide variety of trade fairs and in November we were also able to be part of one or two fairs. At Electronica 2024 (with a total of 18 halls) in Munich, we exhibited the EDGE14 together with our sponsor Fischer Connectors and had an extremely interesting time and an unforgettable experience, which was made possible thanks to Fischer Connectors.

Another trade fair we attended this month was TECONOMY Vienna, the career fair of the Vienna University of Technology. Here we were able to talk to companies and students, as well as able to present our team as an exciting entry point for motorsport enthusiasts. It's always great for us to be in contact with other tech-savvy students, which is why this event was also very special for us.

Overall, we can look back on an eventful November and are more than motivated to take our EDGE16 to the very top this season.

Until then!

Your TU Wien Racing
